| I have been having discussions and such with Patriot of our cyber division. One of the things that came up was home servers. Basically anything you see on line is sitting on a computer somewhere. Those computers have special software that makes them servers. Poking around on line I found some free server software and made a server of my very own. While I put the software on a separate computer I had it could just as easily be installed on the computer you use regularly. The software is idiot proof (me being the idiot in question) and only lets outside users access what files etc you place in it. Other than that the only 2 things you need to do is open a port on your modem router (I had an IT skilled bud do mine) to let outside users access it and remember to leave the computer on. You can turn off the monitor when you aren’t using the computer to cut down on power consumption.
Now how this affects our group.
While I have fun with my home server right now it isn’t as dependable as I might want. But a stable home computer server maintained by one of us would be the ultimate in computer security. Software be dammed. Nothing is more secure than having actual physical control of where your valuable data is sitting. Also when you get space from on line you play by their rules. When you own the server you are the 1 making the rules! Running it hasn’t made a discernable blip on my electric bill either. So would anyone be interested in setting up a server? Who knows? As we expand our various operations we could eventually end up with a home server ring. Just thought I’d put this out there for discussion.

| Greetings,
I'm interested in it. Although security might be an issue when we are talking about having servers on different networks. If we had one server per group, that would be atleast four servers. That's a start, atleast.

| The way Golden FTP works what Internet service you use really doesn’t enter into it other than the fact that cable seems to be the default fastest. While at present we only have 4 groups more are sure to follow, as this is something that’s time has come. In addition each group has more than 1 member, each of which is a potential computer for our server ring. Now I know there will be some overlap, with some being members of more than 1 group. But that balances out, when you factor in individual Earth Agents not part of any group, and those with more than 1 computer. This may end up with you as head of the Cyber Division having 1 of the largest team groups. Now as far as security goes basic measures like we have discussed many times will see to most of it. Then with that kind of assembled talent and brainpower to come up with other ways to protect us I don’t see us as the ones with a security problem. It will be any Schmuck that dares to come up against us that will have the problem. Superman

| I'm going to have to read up on this golden ftp. One thing I was thinking of is that if we could get four people from each of the groups then we could have mirrors for downloads. Then a person could pick the one closest to them and it would improve latency. I'm going to use a mmorpg as an example here. Now you can have a game that p2p. However the first person is going to be really fast, then each person is going to be slower and slower. Another issue is security, sure it's going to be less of a load, but then it's going to be hacked. Another example is seti@home. Any time you have a distributed computing application, it's not going to be secure. Though there may be other ways to harness this power. I will have to research this more. | |

| One of the things we have going for us right now is our relative anonymity. If we work at it we can be up and running and totally secure before they even know we are there. At the present time worldwide there are less than 300 active RLSH types. I’d say as a conservative estimate that at least a third of them are posers. The world at large is blissfully unaware of our presence. Those outside our community that do know of us consider us a fad or a joke for the most part. We are going to change all that in Earth Agents by the simple expedient, of doing what needs doing, when it needs to be done. Superman

| Greetings,
One thing with golden ftp though is I dont' see a linux version. I want to get away from using windows period. One reason is security, that IE browser hack can get into all versions of the windows operating system. Second is I don't like how microsoft is acting.

| You can use whatever editor you want. I recommend Golden FTP because it’s what I use and it’s about as idiot proof as they get. I’ve never worked with Linux so I don’t know what to recommend. But the next time I talk to my computer Guru I’ll ask him. Is Linix HTML different from others? Superman

| Greetings,
I think he'll say yes. I want to try mint linux. As it has things in it media use and it is based off ubuntu.
But first I think we should get everyone's security up to snuff. Personally, I think it might be good to have some "cyberwar games" going on between us and the cyber angels to test our security. Then we can think about expanding. By the way, speaking of them still having gotten a response from them.
Another thing too is on a usual computer setup, the servers are behind a firewall and all on one network. Were dealing with multiple networks. That should make things interesting.
