Subject: My Space Real Life Super Hero Webring

Hi all,

At the request of Zetaman and a few others, I have set up a “My Space RLSH Webring.” http://www.myspace.com/hero_links It has been set up as a profile that will lead to a my space group site. As soon as the 7 day waiting period is over so I can make one. All you have to do to promote the web ring is add this profile to your friends list same as any other and keep it visible as one of your top friends to promote it. Until such time as I figure out or someone tells me how to make adds automatic I’ll have to do it manually. If anyone seeing this post knows how to do that please let me know. I am pledged to add in anyone who applies no matter my personal feelings about them. The only exceptions to this, or deletions from it that will be made, will be based on complaints from the members or other rank falsification discovered after they have applied and were added. Now you will be able to communicate to all heroes and hero supporters out there without bugging the rest of you’re my space friends. But in order for it to work you have to participate.

So there you go it’s all set up and almost tied with a pretty pink bow. Like the Bulletin says weather or not it works out well is up to the RLSH types on My Space. For those of you who don’t care for my space please ignore this post.

Well the web ring is up and running. So far it’s Entomo, Zetaman and me on the listing. The group site board where folks can make posts and leave messages will be added in Thursday once my space lets me. While I have set up this web ring deal I have no desire to be in total control of it. Unlike some other boards and sites where their so-called president claims to be the leader of “all Superheroes everywhere” I don’t need my ego stroked on a daily basis. Leading shrinks say that needing daily ego stroking indicates a extremely fragile and poor self image. The way I figure it no one will listen unless what I say makes sense. I also figure the minute I stop making sense they’ll stop listening. That’s the way it should be anyway for everyone. Listen to what folks have to say but make your own decisions. It works for me anyway. What I would like to do is get some volunteers to help run said web ring. It’s not exactly a MOD position as whoever signs in under the web ring ID will be in total control. I guess it would be more of a group of equals. Towards that end I already have a letter in to Entomo asking for his participation and am now also asking Zetaman here if he wants in as well. If there is anyone else that is interested please let me know by replying to this post. When I set it up it was with an eye toward the future so I used the mail alias of hero_links@sentinelmail.cjb.net . Presently this email alias points toward one of my regular email addresses but I can go in and change it to point anywhere we might need. If enough folks get involved in running the web ring we can set up a yahoo group site for it to act as an email forwarder for all those participating. That’s how I have a site set up for my “Robert The Robot Project”. I really don’t want to be in control of this! With several folks involved (each with equal power) it will keep everyone honest and prevent any personal prejudices we have from screwing it up. Hopefully I will be getting a large response to this post.

I am pleased and happy to announce that Thanatos is now on board with the Hero_Links Web Ring . He has the password and address same as me . All who sign up will receive the same offer. There are several folks I am trying to get involved in it’s running but I haven’t heard back from them as yet. This is far too important a deal to have any 1 person in charge. Anyone involved in running it will have the same power as anyone else that is involved running it. No leaders just concerned folks working together for the common good. It will keep it honest and free from personalities and other BS we don’t need. Well it is set up and is as advertised. I am looking forward to a bunch of folks signing up.

The web ring is getting bigger all the time. Adding both guys and gals fairly equally with both guys and gals taking charge, Today I made a yahoo group site to act as an e mail forwarder for those working on the project and pointed the mail alias at it. Now when something needs to be done insted of my space sending just me an e mail about it everyone associated with the project will get one. As soon as they are signed up on the yahoo group site they wont have to worry about checking the web ring profile by hand as they will recieve a letter from my space the same as they do for their personal profile. Things are definately looking up.

Nah, Hero Links is just fine. I wish there was more you can do on myspace like you can do on websites like java scripts and such. That and I wish more community news happened so that some bulletins can be posted.

Hello Zetaman,

As you well know my opinion of my space and how it’s set up is considerably less than favorable. The words brain damaged, piece of crap, come to mind to be frank. But it is where a lot of folks hang out. I do have a work around using my style of guerilla HTML. You put a link on the my space page that either pops up a page over the top of it or takes you to a different page that has a return link on it that takes you back to my space. 1 example is the link on the hero links page that goes to the yahoo group site of the same name that I have set up as a e mail forwarder. It pops up over the top so when you close it you are back where you started. Here are examples of the 2 ways to do the pages.

Transfers you to a different page leaving my space behind. You’d need a return link on that page to go back to my space.

Pops up a page over the top of the my space page. When you close it my space is still underneath. As you can see the only change code wise where it says target=_BLANK . I know that like as not you know most, if not all, of this already but I put it here in full for those that don’t know all that much HTML. Knowledge is power and to my way of thinking computer knowledge like HTML tricks should be spread around freely. As you are as fully empowered as I am on the hero links web ring set up feel free to use the code to add in whatever you want. After all hero links web ring is and always will be a group project.

It looks good, one of these days I really have to get out photo shop and master it. One thing though . Can you add in a length of chain? The reason I had one in the 1^st place was ther name hero links suggested links on a chain to me. Like the expression a chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link this web ring will only be as strong as those working on it. It may be just me but I kind of get off on the symbolisim. Plus what did you think of the link idea to tie the web ring in with your wiki space page ?

I just love the new logo to death and have already added it to the group site part. But it seems my space has changed their editor around and I haven’t figured out the new one yet. If you know how it works please go in and switch out the old logo for the new one. You have the password etc to be able to do it . If anyone else knows how they can try or send me a tutorial on how the new system works. I’d say what I think of their beta but I’m trying to eliminate swear words from my vocabulary.

Hi Zetaman,

I did finally find a way to make the new picture show up as the default hero links picture. So you won’t have to deal with it. I deleted everything else in the album. Still don’t understand the so called beta version of their editor. They left out the choice of which picture can be the default picture for the profile. Not real bright if you ask me. L.O.L. But they do have an option of creating more than 1 album. I did notice 1 thing when I tried uploading the new logo it wouldn’t let me at first. It seems it wouldn’t accept the ending jpeg but wanted jpg instead. Just thought I’d tell you that in case you ran into it. A simple rename was all that was needed.

Yeah, I am wondering about the Album. Perhaps we can do a thing where RLSH pics are in a album with a name attached. Like of like a digital hall of heroes.
Here are some hi res pics if you guys want them. I don't know how to post html on a message board that can be cut and pasted. So good luck with that.

Hi Zetaman,

I love the idea about a Hall of heroes where folks can post their pictures. It may be easier for the HTML challenged among us to put their respective pictures in an album on the group site attached to the hero links my space profile. That way it will also be open to all hero types not just the ones working on the project that know the password etc. I love the logos you have come up with. Here is an example of how to do the HTML.

I tested this out and it works great. I’ve never used photo bucket myself to stash images but I may keep it in mind as a backup. Anyone that wants to add the hero links banner to a non my space web page should be able to just copy and paste the code here.
