| Heroes Network was hacked last nite: postings deleted and folks banned. Banned members were reinstated and posting recovery is underway. Motives unknown. RLSH gone wrong... or an RLSV attack? Time will tell. | |

| Captain Black, If you are in contact with them can you get me some details? It seems I can’t get in any more and supposedly there was a mass deletion of all my posts by a person named Solaris. I don’t recall any Solaris being listed as a mod or admin on that board. I did send Zimmer a post to that effect, but you feel free to pass on the information in case it was a hacked E-mail used to screw up their board. BTW you will notice that the Earth Agents boards are still up and running. Superman

| No what it does mean is that using a slightly different format board here that’s easier to lock down keeps away the riff raff. Also crap that happens on the heroes network board they don’t dare try here because we have way better dedicated mods and admins. BTW Patriot look at your Pvt. messages here and on the EASCC board as I sent you some that have yet to me answered. Just in case you can’t read them what time should I call you? Superman

| Thats funny that you should mention the name Solaris, Superman, cause I'd gotten 4 emails from heroesnetwork 2 of them saying that "Solaris" declared me the winner, and the other 2 saying that "Solaris" took away the winner status and then got one saying that all my posts were deleted from that site. I haven't been to that site in so long (seeing as they banned me twice for voicing my opinions) that I didn't think that my account was still valid, till I was there tonight. And I want to know who this Solaris person or thing IS!!!!!!!!!!!! | |

| I've been banned for the same thing. I wonder if they ever heard of cyber bullying. | |

| HI Gang, I think I actually have a pretty good idea as to how they got in. A few years back (when I was 1st making a lot of sites on line) I came under a similar attack. Turned out some wannabe Cyber Bully had gotten a program from some hacker site that let him break into yahoo e-mails. I could tell you how I worked it out f you want some time but why bore you with needless details now. As you got the same kind of messages I did you should have noticed that they all had Zimmer’s name on them and a yahoo e-mail account. Id be willing to bet that someone used the same kind of an e-mail hacker program that was used on me years ago to gain control of Zimmer’s yahoo e-mail. Then using that they created and approved a bogus account, which was then given admin status. As anyone who has ever been an admin on a board can tell you, once you have admin status you can do pretty much as you please as far as messing with a board goes. It’s likely that the whole thing could have been prevented by the simple expedient of having no yahoo e-mail as the default e-mail of anyone with admin status. I have told people for some time that yahoo e-mail is unsecured. Maybe now after this latest attack someone will start paying attention. Life is in the details on and off line. Superman

| Sorry I found your number. Anyway, too bad we couldn't get people to come to this site instead of them going to another site, and save them the trouble of being flamed. | |

- Yes, I did notice that about it being Zimmer's name and email addy. That is a shame that that happend. Its a shame that they banned me not once but twice for voicing my opinions on there but then without me knowing they UNbanned me yet again. LOL I do hate to say this BUT it needs to be said. They don't know what their doing half the time over there. They let me in, I voice my opinion, they ban me, they unban me, I voice my opinion AGAIN, again they ban me, then YET AGAIN unban me and let me on. Which is it here, am I banned or not?
Asthma Warrior,
I really couldn’t say why they do what they do. Seems like hit and miss BS to me. As I have yet to get back in there I really couldn’t say. Now as far as this board goes as you’ll recall I made you an admin some time back. I don’t see me giving admin status to anyone I didn’t trust implicitly or was thinking about banning. That being said you know (having had a board yourself) that the only way you could do what was done on the HN board would be as an admin. They are the only ones on a board with that kind of power. As the name Solaris was never listed as an admin before the name had to be awarded admin status before he or she could do squat. It’s my theory that they got in and screwed things up by hacking zimmers yahoo e-mail address. Then after getting in through zimmers yahoo e-mail they used it to add the solaris account and promote said account to an admin. Then using the solaris admin account they did their damage and if they were at all bright deleted the solaris account afterwards to hide their tracks and give the impression that they are way smarter than they actually are. I know yahoo e-mails can be hacked because it happened to mine. It’s also why I recommend staying away from yahoo e-mail. For those who read this and have things defaulting to their yahoo e-mails I strongly suggest you change it before you are messed with too. Remember those that don’t learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them.

| I wonder if google mail could have the same thing happen. Though I know recently yahoo wants a picture to serve as your seal. So maybe they increased their security. | |

| Solaris was made a mod for the Vixens of Valor section after Amazonia retired and Dreizehn lost her mod status. She did not post much outside the VOV section according to Amazonia. From what I've been able to gather Solaris allowed Tothian to use her info to sign into the board after he demanded that his account be deleted. There is some denate as to who actually did the hacking, but circumstantial evidence points to Tothian and hints at Master Legend being involved (if only for letting Tothian use his internet connection) The banned members were unbanned and the active members were deleted during the incident. All accounts have supposedly been restored now. Banned members were re-banned when they were resetting everything. It was not meant to be anything malicious IMHO. My big concern is how something like that can be prevented. Its the second time I've had issues with my account because of someone using another persons sign in info to sneak onto the board. Is there something that can be done to secure a board from that kind of attack. The first time it was someone from one state who used the log in of a friend from another state after their IP address was banned (by my request because i was being stalked) and they were able to mask their IP sdress and log in as another account. Now we have another similar incident (I was convinced it was the same person at first BTW) and no solution has been presented to prevent it happening again. If you cannot log in but have any ideas how to improve the security I would be glad to pass them on. CFtC | |
