I'm begining to plan my own mission, based on what I've seen others do to help the poor and homeless.
I have access through work to lots of blankets and I am thinking of doing a give-away to the homeless around the first week of November when the cold weather really hits. While it dose'nt get as cold here as in some places, the homeless still need all the help they can get.
I plan on making small bundles containing a blanket, possibly a couple of power bars maybe some soap or toothpaste and brush. Tampons or pads for the women, razors for men. simple things that can make a person feel like a person again.
I plan on giving to those I can find who are the most desperate in need, not the ones who will take anything and spend their time either selling dope on the corners and hiting the local churches and misssions for whatever theycan get. I mean those who are living in makeshift tents without proper clothes or anything.
Many of you have more experience at this than I do and I am unsure on how to proceed to be able to help some of those who really need it.
If anyone has a list of stuff or any better ideas for the handout I would appreciate it if you would let me know.
Also, where do you get some of your donations? from stores or companies or just private individuals? I'm a memeber of a church and I will be speaking wih others there about this, keeping my friend Thanatos out of the conversation as much as possible, and see what kind of help I may get. Our church already has a food bank and three times a week we have a sandwich mission that gives out a quick meal.
But there are many out there who can't make it or lack the means to get to another part of town where aid is available. Some are just in such condition that even making it to a local mission or chuch is hard on them.
I'm kind of new to this but many of you have inspired me to go out and try to do some good. ANY suggestions would be appreciated. I set out to try and help those who need it the most by stopping them from being preyed apon. But I realise that there is more to helping than just fighting crime.
There is more to being a real life superhero than just stopping criminals. This is also a part of fighting injustice and ignorance. To give a person back his dignity is also a way to destroy evil.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
